We are Holistic Health Consultants and Structural and Movement Specialists with 20 years of combined experience designing total wellness programs that help clients to achieve their health and wellness goals.
Our goal is to empower people with the tools and information they need to be able to take control of their health. We aim to support and create health and healing in order to create an environment where disease cannot thrive. We work to help people achieve a sustainable lifestyle that supports health rather than disease, to address the underlying causes of common health conditions rather than just treating symptoms, and to help people improve their quality of life.
Rick Buchikos
Ricks passion for fitness began at the age of twelve when he began resistance training and martial arts at his local nautilus club. Just a few years later he found himself designing his own periodized resistance training programs and starting to be curious about nutrition and supplements. Later while attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he had his first experiences of training other people while showing his friends around the university’s state-of-the-art recreation center.
Rick graduated from university and received his B.A. in Psychology in 1998, having focused primarily on psychology, sociology, and anthropology. He began his career in the health and fitness industry a few years later as a personal trainer in 2001, and spent the first few years acquiring basic industry certifications such as those from NASM and ISSA. Soon after he was introduced to the CHEK institute by a friend who happened to be a physical therapist.
Developing a passion in this field, he expanded his knowledge and expertise at the prestigious C.H.E.K Institute, which is known worldwide for excellence in education and innovation in the integrated fields of corrective exercise, high-performance conditioning and lifestyle and stress management. Rick has been through 5 years of intensive training and mentorship through the CHEK institute. As a CHEK Institute-trained professional, he expanded his knowledge of movement to include how nutrition, lifestyle factors, biochemistry, and cognitive factors can come together to create either health or disease.
In 2008 while working at the Sports Club LA in San Francisco, he was asked to hold the Master Advantage Trainer position, where he was responsible for teaching higher level education to his seasoned colleagues. Later that year, he began learning functional medicine through Dr. Daniel Kalish’s Clinical Training Course in San Francisco, and later went on to become certified as a Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist. Through these mentorships Rick learned how to use advance clinical laboratory testing to gather objective data in an effort to help his clients balance their hormones, eliminate gastro-intestinal issues, and clear up their body's detoxification pathways in an effort to achieve optimal health.
For the past 11 years, Rick has been dedicated to helping his clients achieve higher levels of wellness. He addresses all areas of health including movement, hormones, nutrition, digestion, and detoxification. Rick performs detailed assessments and thorough evaluations as a prerequisite to designing corrective, performance-enhancing, or wellness programs. He uses a holistic approach to health and performance by relying on proper nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle factors to bring about positive changes in how the body and mind function.
Since early 2009, Rick has been working independently with clients out of Sessions Training Center in San Francisco. His intention is to always meet people where they are, and to help them get to their next level.
